'This, If the Mets Do Not Win It, Will be a Horrible Loss'

Even better than Gary Cohen's word selection was his pitch-perfect delivery. You could hear the disgust in his voice as he recounted the events that led to the Cardinals taking a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the 8th.

Beltran not sliding. Murphy sucking in the field. Perez sucking on the mound. Blowing a 4-0 lead. It was a terrible game. And the first "horrible loss" of the season.

I don't know what the answer is for this team. This was a game they had no business losing. They were rocking the Cardinals starter around through the first half of the game, they were even hitting with runners in scoring position -- but they never delivered a knock out blow.

Frankly they played tonight like they didn't give a shit. We'll score some runs here, walk in a few runs there, not slide here, lose our footing there.

It's pathetic that they lost tonight. I used to think that losses like this could teach this team a thing or two, but honestly, if they haven't gotten the fucking point after the last two seasons, they're not going to start getting it because of one loss in April.

At a point, you really have to ask yourself if the personnel Omar's assembled, and stuck with year after year, has the character to win.

This team has hit rock bottom. Really. I haven't see lack of motivation like this since... the 2003 Detroit Tigers. That's how much I think of this year's team. All the hope that I had coming into this season has diminished.

"Frankly they played tonight like they didn't give a shit."

That has been the problem and will continue to be the problem until they run into a team that tries to embarass them routinely...like the Marlins and Phillies. Mets routinely waste at bats(Reyes, Wright and Beltran especially). I am not sure what the hell is going on with murphy's fielding. one day he makes a Great play and a strong throw then the next day he misplays a relatively simple ball AND FALLS to the ground...How does he lose his footing so often? Penny Loafers murphy is his new name...
I am getting pissed off bewcause the behavior does not seem to change no matter who the coach is...
